HIS GRACE The Most Rev. Dr. Stanely Ntagali the out-going Archbishop of the Church of Uganda accompanied by his team from All Saints Cathedral Nakasero has visited H.E the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House to thank him and government for supporting his pastoral work and Church of Uganda projects during his tenure as Archbishop of Uganda and to bid farewell.
Dr. Ntagali will be officially handing over the pastoral stuff, Church of Uganda constitution and the church flag to the newly elected Archbishop Dr. Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu who will be officially consecrated and installed on March 01st 2020 at St. Paul’s Namirembe Cathedral.
In State House, Dr. Ntagali saluted the president for being a supportive Christian and asked him continue with that generous heart.
“Your Excellency, I have come here for two things. One to thank you very much for being supportive to my Pastoral work during my tenure as Archbishop and also, for your giving hand to the Church of Uganda. We are very much appreciative. Secondly, I have come to say goodbye. I will be retiring on March 01st 2020 and handover to my brother Dr. Samuel Steven Kazimba.” Said The Most Rt. Rev. Dr. Ntagali told Museveni.
The President thanked Ntagali for serving God and wished him well.
FLASHBACK
On August 22nd 2018, during the 24th Provincial Assembly, Archbishop Stanley Ntagali announced his intention to retire on his 65th Birthday on March 01st 2020.
On this day, he will hand-over the pastoral-stuff to the Archbishop elect who will then be tested with Authority to lead the Church of Uganda as the Archbishop.
The presiding Bishop at the enthronment will be the Dean of the Province who will be the longest serving Bishop in the church by that time.
He has served as the 8th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. He was elected in June 22nd 2010 and installed in December 16th 2012 at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe.
“He has served with dinstiction for seven years conscreting 21 new bishops and launched three new Dioceses. It is under his leadership that Church house was finished.” Said Provincial Chancellor.
GOD BLESS YOU ARCHBISHOP NTAGALI
Born in Kabale on March 01st 1955 to Ernest and Molly Ntagali, Dr. Stanely Ntagali at the age 16, he and his family migrated to the Hoima District.
He studied theology and trained for ordained ministry at Bishop Tucker Theological College, an Anglican seminary, graduating with a certificate in theology in 1981. He continued his studies after ordination, completing a Bachelor of Divinity degree from St. Paul’s University, Limuru in Kenya and a Master of Arts degree in theology and development from the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (associated with Middlesex University) in 2000.
In 1978, Ntagali married Beatrice. Together, they have four sons and one daughter.
In 1981, Ntagali was ordained in the Church of Uganda. He was a missionary in Karamoja until 1986. He then served as a parish priest in the Diocese of Bunyoro-Kitara until 2002. He was Archdeacon of Masindi from 1994 to 1999, Diocesan Secretary of Bunyoro-Kitara from 2000 to 2002, and Provincial Secretary for the Church of Uganda from 2003 to 2004.
On December 19th 2004, Ntagali was consecrated as a bishop for the newly created Diocese of Masindi-Kitara by then Archbishop Henry Orombi. He was the first bishop consecrated by Orombi.
Ntagali was elected to be the next Archbishop of Uganda by a secret ballot by all the 34 bishops of the Church of Uganda on 22 June 2011. He was installed as Archbishop on 16 December 2012 at St. Paul’s Cathedral at Namirembe.
In addition to serving as the Archbishop of Uganda, Ntagali serves as bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, which is the episcopal see of the archbishop. His official position is Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala.
On 1 March 2020, having attained the retirement age of 65 years, Bishop Ntagali will resign and be replaced Archbishop-Elect Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, who was elected on 28 August 2019, as the 9th Archbishop of Uganda.
Ntagali supports the ordination of women as priests and bishops.
KAZIMBA IS A HUMBLE SERVANT – NTAGALI
Speaking in the press conference shortly after Kazimba was declared Archbishop – elect, the outgoing Archbishop Dr. Stanely Ntagali referred to his successor as a very down to earth servant who deserved this win.
“Martin Luther King Jr once said ‘I have a dream that one day, Black and White Ameriacans will walk shoulder by shoulder on the streets of Washington and New York’. And recently we had the grand son of Africa being the President of USA. Mine is not a dream, it is a testimony.” Ntagali said, adding, “Two days before I was elected Archbishop of Church of Uganda, a dear brother came to me and said, ‘Brother you are being speculated by the press. I feel that we need to sit down and pray together.’ I said, it is a good idea. This was my brother Bishop Steven Kazimba. “
“He never knew that God was preparing him to be the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. My brother I congratulate you and thank God for your humility and I want to thank the provincial Chancellor who led the election exercise. We thank God for this humble and great man of God to whom am going to handle over the province as the 9th Archbishop.” Said Dr. Ntagali.
He also asked Nation to pray for his wife Beatrice and for Kazimba and wife Margret as they prepare to take over the mantal.
On this day, Ntagali will also handover Provincial documents with reports about all Dioceses, Bishops, Reverands and other Church leaders. They will have details about Church of Uganda land, schools, hospitals and other properties.
