AS President Museveni is set to address the Nation tonight in which many people are worried of fresh directives in a fight against Covid-19, Counsel Jude Mbabaali the Masaka LC V chairman wants the whole district shut down!
In a Statement released today evenning, Mr. Jude Mbabaali said, “The problem in Masaka is so serious. Last night, one of the confirmed Covid-19 case escaped and mingled freely with traders and customers in the arcade and in the process, the virus must have been spread. We are fighting the multiplier effect and we are determined. The danger is real. Our fear as leaders here is that government is too slow on some of these things hence the bold move we have taken, the law empowers us to do so.”
According to Mbabaali, the latest three confirmed positive cases by Ministry of Health are all from Greater Masaka region i.e Kalangala, Kinoni and Kabonera.
Jude Mbabaali says, “In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Article 183(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as the political head of Masaka District, I am in consultation with fellow leaders of Masaka inclusive of elected, technical, medical and security teams and we are likely to enforce a total lockdown in the next 12 hours due to the real threat of Covid-19.”
The Statement reads that according to the information available from Masaka District Covid19 Task Force shows that they have a number of people amongst the community who got in contact with the confirmed cases and these are currently everywhere in arcades and shops transacting busness as usual but in the process spreading the virus.
“This is going to be done in good faith to limit the exposure to risk to the already suspected contaminants. We have the support of Central government on this matter. Police plus Kasijagirwa barracks have been put on notice to enforce this lock down without mercy when the time comes. So this is to alert you finalize on all that you have to do.” Ordered Masaka district Chairman.
He says in the meantime, they commend the good work by the district Covid19 Task Force based at Masaka Referral Hospital, though they haven’t recieved any monies from the centre to facilitate thier work, the job they have so far done is commendable.
