TEAM Uganda kicked off the 2023 All Africa Junior Golf championships in style as captain Reagan Joseph Akena hit a hole in one on the par -3 hole no.4, to the excitement of the entire field.
The tournament is happening at the par- 72 Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa and the Lugazi based golfer showed composure and skill as he slotted in the beauty which he believes will impact alot on his overall performance in the tournament.
Uganda’s Ibrahim Ssemakula leads team Uganda with a 2 over 74. Juma Abit is second best with 6 -over. For Ugandan girls Winnie Musuyi has 83, Frista Birabwa 86 with Victoria Achan Wonak shooting 88.
South African boys and girls junior teams are in the lead overall after the first 18 holes action with the boys scoring a gross of 217 in their best 3, 15 strokes better than hosts Uganda at 232. Egypt are third with 233 stroke, Zambia 236 and Zimbabwe amassing 240 to make the top five teams.
South Africa’s Keagan Crosbie is leading the pack with 1 under par 71. Jack Buchanan and Jaden Patel are tied with 1 – over par 73.
With rains interrupting day one action, play had to be haulted for two hours. Some teams did not finish their opening round with the remaining holes to be played on Tuesday, with the second round too.
The All Africa Junior Golf championships is an annual event on the continent and serves as the qualifier for the Junior Golf World Cup that will be held in Japan later this year.
