WARS in the Najjanakumbi based Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) political party are not about to end! The Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda candidacy for Speaker’s job is at stake.
Camp Amuriat is said to have fronted their humble servant Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya for the job. In fact, FDC MP Francis Mwijukye hinted on it while featuring on Behind the Headlines a UBC TV political talkshow on Wednesday night. He said another FDC MP Ekanya wants the Speaker’s job. Now, a section of top FDC leaders want Ssemujju sidelined for what they term as being a Gen. Mugisha Muntu man.
“We don’t trust Ssemujju. His body is in FDC but Heart in Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Party led by Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu. He was the chief campaigner of Gen. Muntu in 2017 for FDC party president, a bid they lost and he fought our President Eng. Amuriat.” Said a top FDC leader who requested for anonymity. On losing, Muntu and a group of FDC members left and formed a new party. Ssemujju, however remained in FDC and appointed Opposition chief whip but still many in FDC feels insecure with him.

This comes after FDC Party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi (POA) openly distanced himself and the party from the candidature of Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda for the Speaker of Parliament.
The Kiira Municipality Member of Parliament, who also doubles as the Chief Opposition Whip in Parliament, had positioned himself as the official opposition candidate and even unilaterally written letters to the presidents of other political parties to endorse his candidature. Semujju also warned all members of the opposition to desist from supporting any candidate from the ruling National Resistance Movement party or risk disciplinary actions.
In a total disagreement with Ssemujju, Eng. Amuriat, himself a former Member of Parliament, said at the office of the Leader of Opposition that the voting of the Speaker of Parliament is going to be a secret ballot and no party will have any control over how its members are going to vote.
“The election of the Speaker is a secret ballot activity beyond the control of any political party, FDC inclusive,” said Amuriat.
The FDC president also said MPs are national characters beyond party affiliations and the election of the Speaker meant to be a non-partisan figure requires impartial wisdom.
“Members of Parliament are national characters and they play their roles beyond the partisan line of their political parties. Importantly, the choice for the Speaker should be a non-partisan and impartial substance,” said Amuriat.

Senior FDC leaders including Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, Cecilia Ogwal; the Commissioner of Parliament, Francis Mwijukye; Kilak South MP, Gilbert Olanya and Amuru woman MP, Lucy Akello are among the party MPs who have openly declared their support for the incumbent Rebecca Kadaga.
It should be noted that no Organ of FDC has sat and resolved that Ssemujju is the party choice but the Kiira municipality legislator is masquerading as the official candidate.

A section of FDC leaders are not happy at Ssemujju that he is openly abusing his powers as the FDC party Spokesman by using the party social media pages to carry out his campaigns. There is rumour doing rounds that Deputy Speaker Oulanyah has a hand in Ssemujju’s candidature, their game plan is to deny Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga block vote from the opposition.
