STARTING today Thursday December 3rd 2020, presidential candidate Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine will have new faces of security officials and a new security van given to him by the Electoral Commission as he re-embarks on his campaign trails.
This comes a day after the National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential flag bearer was ‘ambushed’ on his way to Kayunga and Jinja districts to canvass for votes.
During this incident, ASP William Kato who has been commanding Hon. Kyagulanyi’s security detail was hit by an explossive which according to media reports, was fired from a gun and landed on one of Kyagulanyi’s car.
Bobi’s close associate Dan Magic and ASP William Kato were seriously injured by fragments from this exlpossive. Hon. Kyagulanyi had to first suspend his campaigns and yesterday on Wednesday, he met EC boss Justice Simon Byabakama on issues concerning sabotage of his campaigns by security organs. He informed EC boss how his life and lives of his supporters are in danger due to what he called, trigger happy men in uniform.
It’s believed that after this closed door meeting, EC changed the candidate’s security detail deploying new faces.
However, there is another intelligence report indicating that a plot to urgently change Bobi’s security detail was hatched last weekend fearing that ASP Kato and Kyagulanyi had become colleagues. So he had to be changed and in fact a new team was supposed to report on duty early this week.
On Sunday night, President Museveni who is the Commander-In-Chief (CIC) of security forces vowed not to allow Hon. Kyagulanyi and other candidates hold rallies. In his National address, Mr. Museveni said, all candidates must observe Covid-19 SOPs, and that no one will be allowed to conduct what he reffered to as an illegal meeting.
According to our sources, this is when Electoral Commission working with Uganda Police Force moved in to change Kyagulanyi’s security detail. “Kyagulanyi is getting new security officers this week. Don’t be shocked to see different police officers from those who have been manning his security.” Sources told us on Sunday.
Electoral Commission is mandated to give presidential candidates a truck and security.
At first, Kyagulanyi had rejected these police men accusing them of taking part in his arrest shortly after he was nominated. But after his engagement with EC, he allowed them back.
We are now told, he has been given new faces!
