ON addition to donations worth One hundred Million Uganda Shillings (UGX100M) donated by successful businessman Hamis Kiggundu through Ham Foundation to National Covid-19 Task Force, this young billionaire has exempted thousands of tenants on Ham Shopping Grounds rent for two months.
Announcing this relief, Haji Hamis Kiggundu said, “I perfectly understand how the outbreak of Coronavirus Pandemic brought down businesses globally. When His Excellency the President announced total lockdown, businesses were closed and our traders were sent home in a ‘Stay Home’ campaign in which we all participated. Definitely Ham shopping Ground was closed.” Said Haji Hamis Kiggundu who was the most vocal in seeing Arcades open.
He noted that, on the opening up of businesses, he considered forgiving his tenants rent for two months that is April and May, an offer that has excited traders.
“Yes as you all know, although government closed down our buildings, we the landlords have continued footing bills of electricity and water, giving security to our tenants’ goods and paying back bank loans. Despite the fact that we all need money to service loans, I have exempted my tenants rent for two months.” Said benevolent Hamis Kiggundu.
In an exclusive interview with businessman Kiggundu, this relief is to enable his tenants to recover from the Covid 19 effects and return back to business as situation in the whole country returns to normal.
This arcade was cleared by Government in observance of presidential guidelines against Coronavirus.
Today morning, our reporter was at Ham Shopping Grounds and found shops opened.
Thank you Haji Kiggundu for this humanitarian heart.
