THE Powerful brothers of Hindujja Group in India, owners of Ashok Leyland sponsored an Operating local Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called TONDEKA METRO to operate the 980 buses which already have been cleared by The Parliament and Government of Uganda.
Tondeka is a Luganda word meaning, ‘Dont leave me.’ These buses will be called Tondeka.
It has a Board of Directors and there sits UTRADA Chairman Mustafa Mayambala. Another taxi operators group KOTSA also has a position on TONDEKA Board only that, they still have leadership issues.
These are included to bring on board taxi drivers and conductors to embrace the project and get jobs.
Board will also have three experts as Special Advisors.
This board has been tasked to deliver the Turn Key Transformational Project which will ensure affordable, reliable and efficient Greater Kampala Public Transport of up to 980 buses in phase 1.

DR. PETER KIMBOWA: He is commonly known as PK. He is the Board Chairman Tondeka Metro.
Kimbowa is an Internationally Certified Executive Coach, Consultant, Trainer, Renowned Speaker and Business Adviser.
Dr. PK was recently named one of the 101 World’s best Corporate coaches by the World Human Resource Development Congress that is celebrated in USA, UK, Europe, Africa, GCC and Asia.
Kimbowa received the citation at Celebrations to mark 28years of the World HRD congress that took place at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai, India.
Dr. R. Bhatia the founder of the world sustainability Congress said that the awardees were identified after an international research process undertaken by the research cell which consists of Post Graduates in History & Management with over 5 years research experience, an iconic job that produced a shortlist of Individuals who are doing extraordinary work. The shortlist was then reviewed by a Jury comprising of senior professionals from all over the globe. Chairman of the jury, Professor Indira Parikh, Ex Dean of IIM Ahmedabad & President – Antardisha, spoke of Dr. Peter Kimbowa as a leader who has set a big example for transformation and change not only in Africa but also around the globe.
Dr. Kimbowa is a corporate Board member and advisor to several Boards including but not limited to; ESKOM (U), Equity Bank, Baylor College of Medicine which is based both in Mulago Hospital and Houston Texas, Kampala Archdiocese and advisor to the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU).
Last week he led a team of TONDEKA Metro directors to meet the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and take her through the public mean transport transition from matatus to buses as directed by H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Thanks to Dr. Kimbowa for a superb submission about the project which left Rt. Hon. Speaker convinced about the project, cleared it and pledged to give TONDEKA Metro buses all required support.
A soft speaking gentleman, well educated, don’t to earth, approachable and a man of his word. You need to work under Dr. Kimbowa, then you will know how transparent managers behave.
CHARLES OCICI: He is the Vice Chairman Tondeka Metro. Ocici is theFounding CEO at Enterprise Uganda since 2001, a national character institution that provides business development Services (BDS) to MSMEs. Led the institution with distinction enabling it diversity donor partners from three at inception to more than 20 including banks, large corporates that out-source business to SMEs, charities
and governments.
Built a lean core team of multi-skilled professionals that are tested in their professional calling of offering diverse
business development services. 30 years’ experience in Investment Banking; Private sector and micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) development; consulting on corporate governance, strategy and Business Plan
preparation; staff productivity and career transformation solutions; programme/project design, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessments.
AMANDA NGABIRANO: An urban and regional planner, with more than 5 years of professional experience in the area of urban development, particularly in Uganda, Amanda Ngabirano is a Director, Tondeka Metro.
She studied Bachelor of Urban Planning at Makerere University, and a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning and Development, at Saxion University,
Netherlands, and University of Greenwich, United Kingdom.
She has special interest in urban mobility and its obvious informalities in East African cities. Because of this Amanda has been engaged in several urban mobility projects in various capacities.
She has also conducted research on informality and transport complexities, road safety and quality of public space in Kampala. She is currently coordinating the regional urban mobility project for sustainable and inclusive transport, which is being implemented in Kenya and Uganda.
GAD MUGISHA: He is a Director Tondeka Metro. Mugisha is the Chairman Taxi Ownes Associations. For over 33 years he has been a major investor in the taxi industry. He has been in the leadership of the taxi owners for over 15 years. He is the current chairman of the Commercial Taxi Owners and Transporters Development Association (COTODA).
ROLAND MICHAEL SEBUWUFU: An Investment Banking professional with vast experience in Corporate, Finance and Investment Portfolio Management, Small and Medium
Enterprise development, and Micro Financing. Currently the Chief Executive Officer of Buganda Kingdoms’ holding company, called Buganda Investment and Commercial Undertakings Limited.
Outside work, Roland is a Rotarian and has served in positions of Leadership at both club and District level. He is also a Director in Tondeka Metro.
SHRIKESH GHEEWALA: Dedicated and result driven Property Developer with extensive East Africa Property experience. Processing a wealth of management experience and a proven ability to successful sales and
business development.
Family background of 3 decades with numerous landmark projects. Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiating skills and ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial internal and external relationships.
MUSTAFA MAYAMBALA: He has been in the taxi industry for over 30 years. For the last 10 years, he has been the chairman of the taxi operators and drivers association. He has been instrumental in shaping the taxi industry and public transport at large. Mayambala is a Director.
DOROTHY KABUGO: She is the Company Secretary TONDEKA Metro.
