YOUTHFUL Abubaker Kawalya, Lord councilor representing Lubaga North at City Hall must be the happiest councilor aspiring for KCCA Speakership after getting endorsement by 8 members of Parliament out of 9 MPs representing Kampala in Parliament.
Also, all the five division mayors making up Kampala led by powerful FDC Buganda Vice President Owek. Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo have openly come out to rally behind Kawalya saying he is the best candidate for the job.
Election of KCCA speaker is expected before the end of this February.
“We are not happy about what’s going on at our party Headquaters. We will not support any attempt by a section of party leaders to use shortcuts. We are closely following all games being played against our son Haji Abubaker Kawalya but he has our blessings. I will in fact talk to Dr. Besigye about day dreamers who think can impose Doreen Nyanjura on councilors. What does she know about FDC?” Asked Lubaga Division mayor, Owek. Ssebuggwawo.
This comes at a time when Party officials have declared Nyanjura as the official party flag bearer, something Ssebuggwawo has denied.
“Who made her a flag bearer? Which qualifications does she have better than Kawalya? We will not allow such dramatic scenes. Kawalya is FDC 311, we will support him and do everything to make sure he is the KCCA Speaker.” Vowed Buganda Kingdom former minister.
Kawalya camp advised him to shun ‘fake’ FDC nominations fearing to step on their political landmines.
According to his campaign manager, “Winning is on our way. FDC Caucus elected Kawalya and everything was sealed. We are only waiting for the election day to disapprove those cliques fighting Kawalya.”
Other mayors who have boosted Kawalya camp includes; Charles Musoke Sserunjogi (Kampala Central), Ronald Balimwezo ( Nakawa), Haji Ali Kasirye Nganda Mulyannyama (Makindye) and Emanuel Sserunjoji Oweddembe (Kawempe).
We are reliably informed, mayors of Particular divisions are secretly meeting their LC V councilors to vote for Haji Kawalya. We are even aware of late night meetings to see Kawalya win with flying colours.
“On this, we are showing solidarity. As Kampala division mayors, we are behind Abubaker Kawalya. He will serve a better Speaker. He is pro people, a young man who listens and very dependable.” Said Kampala Central mayor, Charles Sserunjogi Musoke.
8 MPS BOOST KAWALYA CAMP
They are led by COSASE Chairman and Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa Mugaatigwabbata, COSASE Vice Chairman also Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi, Lubaga South MP Paulo Kato Lubwama and Kawempe North MP Latif Sebaggala Ssengendo.
Others are; Muhammad Nsereko ( Kampala Central), Nabilah Naggayi Sempala (Kampala Woman MP) and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West).
To our shock, Hon. Micheal Kabaziguruka (Nakawa) who is a brother to Nyanjura’s husband, is also team Kawalya.
In fact when FDC party president was announcing Nyanjura’s nomination today at the Party Headquaters, no Kampala MP showed up.
It’s only Hon. Moses Kasibante (Lubaga North) who is behind Lukwago’s Doreen Nyanjura and his issues are personal.
WHY KASIBANTE HATES KAWALYA
Kawalya has been in the news targeting Hon. Moses Kasibante Lubaga North seat in 2021and has full support both in FDC and People Power.
During a meeting at Bobi Wine’s Magere home, Kyaddondo East legislator openly told Lubaga North People power youth who had visited him that in 2021 he will support Kawalya for MP seat calling him, “A very hardworking FDC young man who shares People power ideologies. “
Kyagulanyi said People Power has no problem with the leaders like Kawalya
who embrace People Power activities.
“Kawalya is on ground mobilising our people. He is in FDC but not fighting our genuine cause. He is our brother, we can’t fight him. We have many colleagues in FDC, NRM and other parties who believe in the People power struggle, we will always stand with them.” Kyagulanyi told Lubaga North youth who were led by Hakim Kizza Saula.
It is not known whether this is why Kawalya is fought by Katonga’s Peoples Government not to take over KCCA Speaker slot.
However those knowing Kawalya said, this councilor who chairs Engineering and Road Works committee is determined to contest with any one be it fronted by Lord mayor or NRM.
Kawalya told the News Editor Online that, “I have no problem with any member presenting him or herself. That is democracy. Let them come, councilors will decide. I have all the qualifications for this job and am in touch with councilors who have asked me to contest. Yes I will and winning is for us.”
Serving his first term as councilor, Kawalya is a Ghetto boy who grew up in the slums of Kawaala, Kasubi and Nakulabye. He is talked about as the richest young councilor in Lukwago’s council, approachable and very generous.
Before being voted KCCA councilor, he served in KCCA making him known by the technical wing.
Kawalya commands genuine support from fellow councilors and other stakeholders, with higher chances of winning the Speaker job.
