ALL IS SET: KAWANDA SECONDARY SCHOOL TO HOST UMEA GAMES 2020

THE eighth edition of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games have been today Tuesday officially launched at the 2020 host Kawanda Secondary School.

This year, UMEA Games will be held during Easter holidays,  kick off is 9th to 13th April 2020 at various play grounds within Kawanda SS and the vicinity. 
Last year games were hosted by Kasawo Islamic Secondary School with Mbogo Mixed winning the overall Championship.

Addressing the media during today’s launch, UMEA Sports Committee chairman Haji Twahil Kitezeela retaliated the essence of these games which started in1998.

“The UMEA Solidarity Games are intended to forge unity among the Muslim Community,  schools and our students. They are intended to promote Muslim Secondary Schools in Uganda, prepare UMEA school teams for National games as well as provide entertainment.” Said Haji Kitezeela during the press confrence. 
He revealed that this year games will be incorporated with the theme of ‘Nature conservation’ with the main activity inclined along tree planting. 

Haji Kitezeela was flanked by the Director Kawanda SS Haji Muhammed Maseruka, Haji Hussein Lwembawo Kyagulanyi (General Secretary UMEA Sports  Committee), Haji Badru Ndugwa (Member UMEA Sports Committee and Executive Secretary of Wakiso Secondary Schools Head Teachers’ Association – WAKISSHA), Ayub Khalifa (Member  UMEA Sports Committee) and Head teacher Kawanda SS Hajjat Hadijah Nassali Kiweewa. 

WE’RE READY TO HOST YOU – KAWANDA SS

Hajjat Hadijah Kiweewa, Headteacher Kawanda SS expressed readiness as the host school to house all the participants. 

“We are more than ready to host the 2020 UMEA Solidarity Games. From the accommodation facilities, feeding, Security and other facilities, we are very ready. We have two play grounds inside the school. Also as the host school, we want to challenge for the main overall trophy.” Said Hajjat Kiweewa.

Kawanda Secondary School returns as 2020 hosts for these games after successfully hosting games in 2005 and 2011 respectively.

Haji Lwembawo revealed that two more sports disciplines Woodball and basketball will be added on to the main menu of games that has Football, Netball, Volleyball, Handball, Badminton and Table Tennis.

He said, “We expect more teams to register for this years’ championship in the six Disciplines. The intention is spread and we want to tap each every talent possible.”

Kawanda SS has ear-marked a number of sports grounds with the main ground within Kawanda Secondary School. The other grounds will be at Research centre, Namalere,  Mbogo mixed Secondary school, Kiteezi,  Kawempe Muslim SS and Kabaka Kyabaggu Sports Stadium. Non-bonafied students shall not be allowed.
